Colour poster produced for Kodak Ltd, showing the 'Kodak Girl' standing on a beach, holding a small camera and case, promoting a Daily Mail holiday photography competition with a £1000 prize. The introduction of portable rollfilm cameras increased the number of women taking photographs and Kodak recognised their potential as hobby users. In 1910, the 'Kodak Girl' became the central motif of Kodak's advertising. Famous for her striped dress, she featured in posters across four decades.

Poster produced for Southern Railways (SR) to advertise the first sailing of the liner Queen Mary, and tickets to the event from London train stations. The Queen Mary was the largest and fastest liner ever built: she could accommodate 776 first-clas, 784 tourist and 579 third-clas pasengers, together with 1101 officers and crew. She also won the Blue Riband of the Atlantic in 1936 and 1938, and served as a troop ship in the Second World War. Artwork by Leslie Carr, who painted marine subjects and architectural and river scenes and designed posters for the SR, London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways (BR). This photograph shows a street scene in which two men are pasting advertising posters to a wall. The image is taken from a series of 37 photographs published in the book, 'Street Life in London' (1877), with text written by John Thomson and the journalist Adolphe Smith. After taking photographs in the Far East, Thomson opened a portrait studio in London in 1875. Two years later he collaborated with the journalist, Adolphe Smith, to produce 'Street Life in London'. The book was conceived as a follow-up to Henry Mayhew's famous study, 'London Labour and the London Poor' (1861-2). The photographs were used to guarantee the book's authenticity.
