Poster produced for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Perthshire, Scotland. The poster shows a view of the Gleneagles Hotel seen across the famous golf course. The Gleneagles Hotel was built with its own railway station by the Caledonian Railway Company, and when it opened in 1924, it was described as 'a Riviera in the Highlands'. It became a fashionable high society holiday destination. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR).

This was the first in a series called 'East Coast Types', which illustrated the types of people frequently encountered during holidays on the east coast. Artwork by Frank Newbould (1887-1951), who studied at Bradford College of Art and joined the War Office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER, GWR (Great Western Railway), Orient Line and Belgian Railways. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 635 mm.
