'Norwich - It's Quicker by Rail', LNER poster, 1930s.
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), to promote rail services to Norwich, Norfolk. The poster shows a view of Norwich from the river, where several boats are moored. One of the most notable buildings of Norwich, a Norman castle, is visible in the distance. Artwork by Frank Henry Mason, who was educated at HMS Conway and spent time at sea. He painted marine and coastal subjects and was involved in engineering and shipbuilding. He designed railway posters for the North Eastern Railway (NER), Great Western Railway (GWR) and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER). Dimensions: 1016 mm x 635 mm.
'Worcester Cathedral', GWR/LMS poster, 1932.
Poster produced by Great Western Railway (GWR) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Worcester, Worcestershire. The poster shows a view of Worcester Cathedral, which was built from 1084, with the tomb of King John (1166-1216), who was buried in the cathedral in 1216. Artwork by Claude Buckle (1905-1973), who originally trained as an architect, but later turned to pictorial art. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artist for Great Western Railway (GWR) and BR. Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum.

Poster produced for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. The poster shows a young woman standing on the beach, with arms raised up toward the prominent cloud-streaked sky. Artwork by Charles Pears, a marine painter in oil who was an Official Naval Artist during the World Wars. He worked as a poster artist for rail companies and other clients and was also a book illustrator. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm.

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to and within Lilncolnshire. This poster is one of a series of six bird's-eye views of the areas served by LNER. The other posters featured the Home Counties, East Anglia, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Durham and Scotland. Artwork by Montague B Black, who was educated at Stockwell College and concentrated on military and naval artwork. He designed posters for LNER, Southern Railway (SR) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS). Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm.

The poster shows a view across the Thames to the Houses of Parliament from the Albert Embankment on the south bank of the river. This poster was made in 1946, just after London had survived the Second World War and looked forward to the future with hope. Frank Mason's series of posters of London do not depict the damage inflicted by the Blitz, but instead show life going on as normal.
